Traditional methods of disposal are no longer environmentally acceptable nor financially responsible:

  • Surface application contaminates soil and groundwater
  • Water disposal causes contamination and destruction of native organisms
  • Incineration is expensive and releases gases and pollutants into the atmosphere
  • Dumping in landfills releases greenhouse gases, risks ground/water contamination, and increases landfill burdens

Proven technologies – innovative solutions

Nowa has engineered proven technologies into a new, patented system that is environmentally sustainable and delivers valuable by-products from wastewater sludge disposal.

The process involves:

  • Drying wastewater sludge to 85% solids in a thermal dryer
  • Mixing the solids with a heated solvent and extracting the oil from the resulting biosolid slurry
  • Recovering the solvent for reuse, leaving an effective slow-release nitrogen soil conditioner/fertilizer and/or a renewable solid energy source.
